Dale LeRoy Brickman was born on February 24, 1941, in Winner, SD, Dale was the son of the Gus and Laura (Wentz) Brickman. Dale’s early years were spent growing up south of Carter, before the family move to Clearfield in 1949 and then to Winner in 1957. He attended North Crystal Springs School and later graduated from Winner High School in 1959. His love for baseball started early and spanned over 50 years, playing from his school days well into his adult life.
Upon completing his education, Dale launched into a dedicated career, initially working at Fullerton Lumber Company, followed by Prairie Distributors and Tractor Supply Company in Winner, SD. Retirement allowed Dale and Judy to embrace their love for travel, with memorable winters in California, along with adventures to Branson, MO, Nashville, TN, and Florida. Music was one of Dale’s passions, and his beautiful voice and ability to play several instruments by ear brought joy to many. His talents were a testament to his love for the arts, despite never having learned to read music.
Known for his masterful woodworking, Dale could build or repair almost anything. His garage was a testament to his flawless craftsmanship, where he lovingly created rocking horses for all his grandchildren, custom dog houses, and various pieces of furniture. His impeccable standards meant that no creation left his workshop unless it was perfect.
Dale’s love for nature was evident in his enjoyment of feeding and watching birds, meticulously caring for his yard, and assisting Judy with gardening. His gentle and kind nature extended to his family life, where he was a devoted husband, dad, grandpa, and great grandpa. He cherished his role as a grandfather, instilling life skills, mending broken toys, and offering wise input to his grandchildren as they grew.
