Dale Roy Young was born on June 16 th 1955 to Roger and Jessie (Dearborn) Young at Mobridge, SD. He was the first of three children and began his education at the Leibelt country school.
When Leibelt closed down, he attended school in the nearby town of Isabel, SD where he graduated in 1973. As a child he was a part of the West River Wranglers 4H club in Glad Valley, SD. Growing up, one of his responsibilities was helping his father maintain the farm equipment. This led to an interest in wrenching on anything that moves, whether it be a car, pickup, or tractor. There would always be some kind of muscle car in the yard for him to tinker on. He was particularly proud of his white ’67 GTO.
He attended Lake Area Technical College after high school where he received a degree in diesel mechanics and worked for a tractor dealership in Gettysburg. A few years after college he joined the marines at Camp Lejeune and was stationed in San Diego. After his service, he worked as a diesel mechanic at various shops around western South Dakota. When his father passed away, he moved back to his childhood home west of Isabel where he spent the remainder of his life farming, ranching, and working his business, Young’s Repair.
He was extremely proud of living on the Young Homestead, keeping it in the family for over 100 years. He was also a member of the Smith Wright Legion Post 120. In his free time, he liked to hang around the stock car racing pits of Rapid City, helping his friends with their cars. He had a need for speed. For Dale, the speed limit was merely a suggestion, and at times it got him into trouble.
Dale was a fixture of Isabel and surrounding areas, a regular at the local café, station, and other establishments. You would always find him joking and teasing whomever he was around.
He is survived by his aunt Phyllis Miller of Isabel, his sister Wanda (Jeff) Benson of Bismarck ND, two nephews Skyler and Riley (Liz) Benson, and niece Tristan Benson, all of Fargo ND, along with numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Daniel Young.
