Dan Comfert, 49, of Chamberlain, SD passed away on December 27, 2020 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
James Daniel Thompson Comfert was born March 10, 1971 at Camp Lejeune, NC. He was raised in Mountain Home Arkansas by his mother and during high school by his Grandma Wanda.
After high school, Dan joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, SD where Kendall and Mariah were born.
Later he met Carson Ashley and to this union Brenna and Cami were born. They made their home in Chamberlain.
In 2007, Dan met the love of his life, Amy Baukus, and the two were married in 2008 making them a family of five: Michael, Kendall, Mariah, Brenna, and Cami. He found true joy in being a grandpa to Dott, Fritz, Graham, and Harly. His kids were his world and he would do anything for them. He especially loved watching them in all their activities.
Anyone who knew Dan knew he was a Kansas City Chiefs fan through thick and thin. Dan loved sports of any kind. He was an avid bowler and golfer until his health prevented him from participating.
Dan loved being a business owner of Chamberlain Food Center and CFC Food and Fuel. Dan and Amy won many awards due to their great love for their businesses and customers. Their generosity and kindness was felt by everyone. They supported and donated to anyone in need.
As his mobility declined, his new passion was his side by side! If he wasn’t adding new gadgets to it, he was cruising around town visiting with everyone he saw. Dan touched many people’s lives, anyone that ever met him was an instant friend.
Dan loved to travel and took Amy on many adventures. Some of his favorites were their travels in the motor home. He sadly never fulfilled his dream of going to Alaska. After selling their businesses it was their plan to live in Hawaii near his sister during the winter months. After breaking his back in 1997, he has endured many health challenges but fought hard through them all. He had determination like no other. The last year has been a hard one for him but he was a fighter to the very end.
Gratefully sharing his life are his wife Amy; children Michael (Justine), Kendall, Mariah (Austin), Brenna, and Cami; grandchildren Dott, Fritz, Graham, and Harly; his sister Tracey (Tommy) Tremaglio, mother and father-in-law Jill and Jim Baukus; brother-in-law Daniel (Tara) Baukus; sister-in-law Sarah (Blain) Hieb; his nieces and nephews,
step-mother Betsy Henry; aunt Sue (Bryan) Melton; uncle Larry (Earlene) Tucker; and half sister Angelia Green.
