Darrel Lintvedt was born to Oscar & Marie Lintvedt on September 1, 1930. He was the youngest of 10 children. The family lived north of Vivian surrounded by many relatives until Darrel was the age of 6. Then they moved to the present day Lintvedt farm 5 miles east of Vivian. Darrel resided on that farm for 83 years until his final move to Edgewood Assisted Living in Pierre.
Darrel attended a one-room country school through the 8th grade and then went on to graduate from Vivian High School in 1948. He entered the Navy the same year and served 1 year of active duty aboard the Valley Forge Aircraft Carrier. He served 6 more years in the Naval reserve. Darrel loved the Navy and would have served longer; however, a family death required him to return home to take over the family farm at the age of 20.
Darrel met his future wife, Mary Lou Moore at one of the notorious Vivian dances. They married in October, 1952. Together they raised 5 children Brian, Laurie, Todd, Mark & Darla. Darrel supported his family by farming, ranching and trucking. His strong work ethic provided a stable home with many happy memories.
Darrel and Mary Lou continued to love dancing for 58 years until Mary Lou’s death in 2010. Soon after, Darrel shared his love of travel and social engagements with Eunice Hullinger until her death in 2018.
Darrel cherished his friendships and experiences of his life-long community of Vivian. He continued to make more friends and enjoy life at Edgewood in Pierre.
