PIERRE, SD – David A. Medhaug passed away in Pierre, South Dakota on the 29th of August surrounded by his family.
Dave was born in Austin, MN on Nov 24, 1934, and was raised in Rushford, MN.
In 1958 he earned his pharmacy degree at the University of Minnesota and worked for several years in downtown St. Paul at the Hall, Anderson, Nordeen Pharmacy in the Lowry Medical Arts building. That same year he married Cynthia Petersen. In 1969 he and Cynthia moved the family to Sauk Centre, MN after purchasing Main Street Drug.
In the 1980s Dave moved to Snowmass village, CO to get closer to the trout streams and mountains he loved. In between fishing, hiking, and games of golf he worked in several pharmacies in the Aspen-Snowmass area including the Aspen Valley Hospital. He loved to hike, golf, and most of all fish. In the summer months he was a frequent patron of the Aspen Music festival. In the winters, he hosted many family Christmas get togethers that were filled with skiing, sliding, warm fires and wonderful memories.
Once he retired, Dave moved to Sun City West, Arizona to enjoy the sun and the numerous golf courses in the area. In 2018, wanting to live closer to family, he moved to Pierre, South Dakota. He loved to look for deer and ducks from his balcony which overlooked the prairie and the Missouri River.
In 2021 he moved to Edgewood Living Center in Pierre, where he was surrounded by a loving, supportive community. Dave will be missed for his generosity, his unique sense of humor, and ability to share his zest for life.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Tonetta and Alfred Medhaug, his sister Janet Heagle and his daughter Susan Medhaug.
He is survived by his daughters Carrie Jacobson and Jill Medhaug, his grandkids Ben and Danny Jacobson, Greta Hruby and Mckinley Medhaug, and Jakey and Isaac Del Peral Medhaug, and his cat Roxie.
At DaveĀ“s request, a small intimate memorial will be held on the banks of the Roaring Fork River in Colorado, accompanied by the sounds of the stream and Gustav Mahler. Love you and miss you Dad.
