Dawson A. White Magpie, 38, of Cherry Creek, passed away Friday, July 5, 2024, at Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. MDT, Friday, July 19, 2024, at the Cherry Creek Gym. Burial will follow in the Congregational Cemetery, Cherry Creek. A procession will take place at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 19, 2024, from the hill east of Cherry Creek. In Honor and In Memory of Dawson, we would like all who attend to wear blue to the service for Down’s Syndrome.

Dawson was born on February 20, 1986, to Delphine White Magpie. It was at birth that Dawson was diagnosed with Down’s Syndrome. Shortly after his birth, he got very sick and was taken to Sioux Falls. Little did we know that he would spend the rest of his life there.

Dawson was pure, untouched and innocent. He did no harm, he was special, special to all of us, and he will remain special to all of us.

The family of Dawson would like to thank the Lifescape Team, Dougherty Hospice House, and all of the doctors, nurses, and specialists who helped raise our beautiful brother, nephew, and grandson.

Dawson is survived by his siblings: Angela Little Elk, Amanda Little Elk, Michael Little Elk, Lewis White Magpie, and Larisha White Magpie; aunts, Eva Baker and Gwendolyn White Magpie; uncle, Terrance White Magpie; grandmothers: Marilyn Runs After, Arlene Demery, and Valtina Little Shield; and grandfathers, Sylvester Waloke and Clyde Little Shield.

All who left before Dawson are his mother, Delphine White Magpie; maternal grandparents, Wendell White Magpie Sr. and Bernita White Magpie; uncles: Julius, Wendell Jr., Elijah and Dawson White Magpie; aunt, Twila White Magpie; and cousins: Twila and Danica Black Bear and Jordan Mesteth.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Dawson’s arrangements.
