Dean Ray Feiock, 65, passed away Saturday, October 24th, 2020 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls from complications due to Covid-19, with his loving wife at his side.
Dean was born on May 19th, 1955 to Reuben and Frances (Liedholt) Feiock in Mobridge, South Dakota. He graduated from Mobridge High School in 1973 and from Northern State College in 1977. On June 19th, 1976, Dean married Patricia (Patti) Steckman of Mobridge, SD in holy matrimony at the United Congregational Church. To this union, Dean and Patti raised two loving sons; Patrick and Mathew, who were the most important part of his life.
Following graduation at Northern, Dean was employed at Herreid School for two years before starting at Selby Area School in 1979. Dean thoroughly enjoyed teaching industrial arts and drivers’ education to his students and watching them learn. He started the senior trip program, which took kids on a trip of a lifetime; many had never been out of state or on a plane before. He lived out his love of teaching in Selby until 2010. After retiring from Selby Area Schools, he started working part-time at Vojta Slumberland/Riverside Home Furnishings. Due to health problems, he was forced to officially retire in 2016. Through his love of working with kids he became a Mason and Shrine Club member. He spent countless hours with the Chanters singing and raising money for the Shrine Hospitals. Dean was also a member of the Mobridge Coin Club and enjoyed collecting coins of all types.
Dean was excellent at working with wood and building a variety of furniture; including end tables, desks, cabinetry, etc., something he learned at a young age from his father. Dean spent most of his weekends fishing, hunting, and camping whenever possible. He also loved vacationing in Hawaii with his loving wife, family, and friends. He supported his sons with their hobby of demolition derbies. Whether he was helping weld something, tune a motor, paint, or just attending the derbies to video tape and take pictures. In 2014 he became a grandpa and learned a new level of love. His grandchildren loved coming over to play and he loved having them over and teaching them life lessons.
Dean is survived by his wife; Patti, two sisters; Wanda Martin of Ellsworth, MN, Karen (Roger) Jeffers of Sioux Falls, SD. His two sons Patrick (Kristin) and Mathew (Darya) both of Mobridge, SD. Grandchildren Devin, Maysie, and Evelyn. His in-laws, Donna Steckman of Mobridge, SD, Carrie (Harley) Overseth of Mobridge, SD, Wanda (Mark) Fuhrer of Mobridge, SD, and Jeff (Gail) Steckman of Grand Forks, ND. As well as many nieces and nephews.
Dean is preceded in death by his parents Frances and Reuben Feiock, Albinus Thomas (step-father). His sister Ruby (Robert) Helmburger and father-in-law; David Steckman.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, November 2nd at the United Congregational Church in Mobridge, SD. The prayer service will be the night before at Kesling Funeral Home at 7 PM with visitation starting at 6 PM. Burial will follow soon after at Greenwood Cemetery.
A Teacher’s Creed
A hundred years from now,
It will not matter
what my bank account was,
the sort of house I lived in,
or the kind of car I drove.
But the world may be different,
because I was important
in the life of child.
