Burial will follow the service at Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of the Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Mrs. Schneider passed away July 31, 2021 at the Walworth County Care Center in Selby.
DeLila was born March 8, 1930, in a sod house six miles northwest of Java, SD in Walworth County. She was the last child born to Jacob B. and Katie (Berg) Stiegelmeier, having two older brothers (Wilmer and Milton), and one older sister (Ellen). She attended Highland rural school through the eighth grade, which was less than one half of a mile from her home. She graduated with the class of 1948 from Java High School.
DeLila taught in rural schools in the Java area for three years following graduation. On August 21, 1949 DeLila married Rinel “Riney” Schneider in Java. They moved to a farm nine miles north of Java in Campbell County. She helped Rinel with field work, assisting with the care of livestock and providing delicious meals for hired help. They were blessed with the birth of their daughters Rebecca in 1954 and Pamela in 1956. This farm would remain their home for 35 years.
In 1984 they retired and moved into their new home in Mobridge. They maintained a beautiful yard which they were both very proud of. DeLila and Rinel enjoyed many years of companionship boat and ice fishing on Lake Oahe, and challenging each other to catch the most or biggest fish. They enjoyed entertaining friends, playing cards, and having a very productive garden. They also enjoyed the opportunity to meet new friends and discover new places as they participated in tours around the United States, Canada and Europe.
After 60 years of marriage, Rinel passed away on February 22, 2010. In 2011 she moved into an apartment at Prairie Sunset in Mobridge. She loved the ten years she lived at Prairie Sunset. She appreciated the staff and convenience it provided, along with the chance to play cards and other games, and to visit with other residents, and visitors to the facility. It allowed her to remain independent and maintain her circle of friends in Mobridge and Java. She was a wonderful cook and baker and it allowed her to continue to make many of her very special recipes. Oh, how her family and friends will miss her variety of cookies and other treats!! Prairie Sunset was her home until twelve days before she passed away peacefully at the Walworth County Care Center in Selby.
She looked forward to the chances of getting together with a group of friends for an occasional night out for supper or to attend a community event. Yet, her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
DeLila was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, along with their WELCA while in Mobridge and St. Paul Lutheran in Java while living on the farm.
DeLila is survived by her daughter Rebecca (Allen) Walth of Glenham and Pamela (Robert) Seyer of Selby; four grandchildren: Steven (Jennifer) Walth of West Bend, Wisconsin; Kristi (Ben) Dwire, Arco, MN; Kelly (Brian) Vander Weyst of Aberdeen; and Heidi (Rob) Stange of Orlando, FL.; ten great grandchildren: Amelia and Kolbrin Walth; Sara and Madison Dwire; Isaac, Noah, Ella and Emma Vander Wyest; and Lila (Yu Yu) and Luca Stange.
