Delores Arlene (Salathe) Mehrer was born on September 3, 1933 To George and Verna (Beckett) Salathe. She was the fourth child of five children. She was raised nine miles northwest of Harrold in Sully County. She married Elmer Mehrer on June 8, 1952 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harrold, South Dakota. They had three children. They lived in the original Mehrer farm house until 1955—when they built their own home. In 2002 they moved from the farm to Pierre, South Dakota.
Delores was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. She loved farm life in South Dakota, especially caring for small animals. Her passion was tracking the weather, gardening, and doing arts n crafts. Elmer joked he had to teach her how to cook, but she knew how to milk a cow.
She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Delores is survived by her children, Pamela Crist, Deborah (Sterling) Myers, and Arlen (Dana) Mehrer; five grandchildren, Darcie (Keith) Sargent, Darren Crist, Dr. Sterling III (Marianne) Myers, Jared Myers, and Elysa Myers; two great grandchild, Logan and Cole Sargent, and one brother, Jerauld (Marlys) Salathe. Delores was preceded in death her parents; husband, Elmer; one brother and two sisters.
