Deloris Mehlhaff, 86, Eureka, SD, died Thursday, September 16, 2021 at the Avera Eureka Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, September 23, 2021, at the Eureka Reformed Church with Rev. James Grossmann officiating. Interment will follow at the Eureka Cemetery. Pianist will be Bonnie Mehlhaff and the congregational hymns will be “God Will Take Care of You”, “Trust and Obey”, “A Wonderful Savior Is Jesus My Lord”, and “Jesus Loves Me”. Ushers will be Glenn Opp and Dale Opp.
Visitation will be at the Lien-Straub Funeral Chapel from 5:00-7:00 PM Wednesday and resumes at 9:00 AM at the church on Thursday.
Deloris Mae Dockter, daughter of Martha (Schlepp) and Leopold Dockter, was born December 21, 1934, at the Dockter farmstead four miles NW of Venturia, ND. She attended Venturia Elementary School through the 8th grade and was then needed to help on the farm. Deloris married Allan Mehlhaff at the Venturia Reformed Church on June 20, 1954. Following their marriage, they resided with Deloris’s parents until they settled on the current Mehlhaff farm five miles SE of Eureka. In addition to farming with Allan for many years, Deloris also was employed at Daybreak in Eureka during the late 80’s and early 90’s. Allan passed away December 30, 1997. Deloris continued to reside on the family farm helping with day-to-day activities and assisting Francie with her daycare. In 2001, she began spending time with her special friend, Ruben Beck. They enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. On November 11, 2011, she relocated to the assisted living in Eureka and due to health reasons, she moved to the Eureka Healthcare Center on April 4, 2012.
Deloris was a member of the Eureka Reformed Church where she was active with the Ladies’ Aide. She also was a very active member of the Eureka American Legion Auxiliary where she held office positions. She faithfully attended as many of her grandchildren’s events as possible and enjoyed sewing, dancing, and playing cards.
Deloris is survived by two sons—Craig (Mary) Mehlhaff of Akaska, SD and Earl (Letty) Mehlhaff of Eureka; one daughter, Francie (Brian) Ingerson of Eureka; and a daughter-in-law, Jackie Mehlhaff of Eureka; three sisters—Eunice (Phil) Devoll of Trinity, TX, Marilyn (Larry) Adsem of Grand Forks, ND, and Betty White of Bowman, ND; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to Allan, she was preceded in death by her father, Leopold, on January 15, 1988; Her mother, Martha, on May 10, 2001; her son, Blake, on September 26, 2020; and an infant brother, Jacob.
Honorary Casketbearers will be Candice Nyreen of Alcester, SD; Carrie Biever of Brandon, SD; Judon Mettler of Harrisburg, SD; and Amy Ingerson and Erica Ingerson of Eureka.
Casketbearers will be Tim Mehlhaff, Travis Mehlhaff, Jordan Mehlhaff, Noah Ingerson, and Aaron Ingerson of Eureka; Monte Mehlhaff of Mitchell, SD; Bill Biever of Brandon; and Michael Mettler of Harrisburg.
Services are in care of Lien-Straub Funeral Chapel, Eureka.
