Mass of Christian Burial for Dennis Madden 81 of Mound City, SD will be Saturday March 20 at 10:30 AM at St Michaels Catholic Church in Herreid, SD. A Scriptural wake will be held Friday at 7:00 PM at the church. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Dennis passed away March 10, 2021 at the Linton Hospital in Linton North Dakota.
Dennis Madden was born April 22, 1939 at Eureka, SD to Michael and Ruth (Lorenzen) Madden. Dennis grew up in the Mound City area. He attended rural grade school and high school at Herreid, graduating in 1957. In 1958, Dennis joined the National Guard and severed until 1962. Dennis was called to active duty in 1961 with the Mobridge National Guard during the Berlin Crisis and was stationed in Louisiana for a year. Dennis married Goldie Moos on December 28, 1959 following their marriage they made their home in Mound City, SD where Dennis worked for Goehring Oil. Following his discharge from the military Dennis and Goldie made their home in Selby, SD. He worked for Delzer Construction during this time. In 1968, Dennis and Goldie moved to Mound City and started Madden Motors which Dennis ran until shortly before his passing. Dennis repaired cars and tractors and for many years, and was a Belarus tractor dealer.
While living in Mound City, Dennis served as Mayor for a number of years. He was active in the Lions Club, the Wild Life Club and was also a Campbell County Commissioner. Dennis was also a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Herreid.
Dennis enjoyed Hunting, Fishing and restoring old pickups.
Dennis is survived by his wife Goldie, Sons Jerry (April) Madden of Herreid, SD, Terry (Tori) Madden of Mound City, SD and daughter Susan (Vernon) Brandner of Herreid, SD. Seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Brother John (Jan) Madden of Rock Rapids, Iowa, and Tim Madden of Avon, SD. Brother in laws Bob Frieh of New York, Tyrone (Alvera) Moos of Phillip, SD and Myron Moos of Selby, SD. Sister in laws Myra (Tom) Hahne of Selby, SD, Wanda Moser of Selby, SD and Roger Moser of Bowdle, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mike and Ruth Madden and in father and Mother in Law Alber, Luella Moos, Sister, Susan Frieh, and Shirley Madden.
Urn Bearer will be Patrick Madden and Flag Bearer will be Kyle Brander and the Driver of Grandpa’s old Truck will be Chuck Madden which will take Grandpa to the Cemetery. Readers will be Alision Nilson and Amanda Mahlke, Ushers are Shauna Stahn and Taylor Madden.
Military Honors will be by the Herreid American Legion Post.
