Diane Faye Buechler was born on April 11, 1956, in Mobridge, SD, to Clarence and Delila (Hauck) Buechler. She grew up in McLaughlin, SD, alongside her siblings Della, Terry, Gloria, Michael, Wayne, and Myron, and attended school in McLaughlin. Diane graduated from McLaughlin High School with the class of 1974.
Diane was united in marriage to Joe Comeau on June 27, 1975, in McIntosh, SD. The couple made their home together in McLaughlin, SD, and their son Casey was born on April 2, 1978. Diane surprised everyone when Casey was born. The family was made complete when Kenny was born on April 14, 1984, and they made McLaughlin their lifelong home.
Diane enjoyed sharing her cooking and baking skills with everyone she could. She worked at the Cenex in the Deli Department and at the McLaughlin Public School as a cook for several years. She was a people person and could make anyone smile with her infectious laugh and beaming smile.
Diane was known for her amazing homemade pies. Her “famous” apple pies were often requested by Kenny and Casey, and Joe especially loved it when she made him lemon pie.
Diane loved all animals, especially horses, cows, dogs, and cats. When there were colts and calves born, Diane named all of them and tenderly cared for them. She enjoyed spending time with all her animals.
Joe and Diane were always working together. Whether fixing fence, baling hay, working on everyone’s vehicles, or mowing yards, they were a team. When they were doing yard work, Diane would be on the mower, and Joe would be trimming.
Diane was a “great” grandma. Diane enjoyed spending time with all of her grandchildren, making many memories that will last them a lifetime.
Diane was always involved in and supported whatever activities her family got into, she was always there to help and there was never an activity that Diane didn’t supply food for. Diane also enjoyed doing puzzles and watching westerns with Joe.
She was known for her compassion and shining smile and will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. We love you, Diane.
Diane is survived by her husband of almost 49 years, Joe Comeau of McLaughlin, SD; sons: Casey (Janet) Comeau of Oakes, ND, and Kenny (Connie) Comeau of McLaughlin, SD; siblings: Della (Jerry) Hauck of McLaughlin, SD, Terry Buechler of Benkelman, NE, Gloria (Ray Lewis) Keller of Glenham, SD, Michael (Lois) Buechler of McLaughlin, SD, Wayne (Sheila) Buechler of McLaughlin, SD, and Myron (Annette) Buechler of Wahpeton, ND; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her cousins from Minnesota, Deb Dalen and Dorothy Johnson.
Diane was greeted in Heaven by her parents, Clarence and Delila, and grandchildren, Joseph Comeau and Michael Comeau.
