Dion L. Rosas 42, of LaPlant, passed away Monday, April 25, 2022 at Cheyenne River Health Center, Eagle Butte.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. MDT, Thursday, May 5, 2022 at Church of God, LaPlant with Pastor Jason Dillard presiding. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, LaPlant. Wake services will be 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at the church with a procession from the hill east of town at 4:00 p.m.
Dion Lee Rosas was born December 19, 1979 in Eagle Butte, SD. He was raised in Pierre, SD and later adopted by Darlene (Lee) and Abel Rosas. They lived in Rosebud, Belcourt, Fort Yates, Pierre, Eagle Butte and eventually settled in LaPlant, SD.
Dion completed his GED and worked many years in construction. He met Lola Bear Stops and was blessed with four girls: Delia, Matea, Frances, and Dionne. He then met Angela Dupris and had two children who went on to be with the Lord. Later he and Tonia Shaving welcomed three more girls: twins, Nevaeh and Naleah Rosas, and Colette Coleen “CeCe” Shaving.
Dion’s hobbies included playing basketball, throwing horseshoes, and fishing. He was blessed with an artistic ability and loved to draw.
Dion is survived by his mother, Darlene Rosas of LaPlant; his children: Delia, Matea, Frances, Dionne, Nevaeh and Naleah Rosas, and Colette Coleen “CeCe” Shaving; siblings: Warren Bowker, Nicholas White Eagle and Delise White Eagle; aunts: Barbara Roach and Delema Butcher; niece, Kobe Iron Wing; cousins: Dixie LeCompte, Ronald Bowker, Joni Bowker, Harley Bowker, Shelly Scott, Dariel Fire Cloud, Darlene Little Shield, Lisa Bianas, and Lester Bowker.
He was preceded in death by his father, Abel; his children: Mia Marie and Dion Jr; special friends: Lola Bear Stops and Tonia Shaving; nephew: Isiah Iron Wing; sister, Roxanne Rosas; maternal grandparents: Abraham and Ethel Lee and Dorothy and Jonas Bowker, Jr.; cousins: Royce Bowker, Eric Scott, Shawn Brown, Colt LeCompte, Stanford Fire Cloud Sr., Rowena Bowker, and Jerrilyn Bowker; uncles: Roland Roach Sr., and Jean Bowker.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Dion’s arrangements.
