MITCHELL, SD – Donald Marlyn Skinner, 74, of Mitchell passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM Monday, March 24 at Will Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at Feigum Funeral Home in Pierre, SD, visitation beginning at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Scotty Philip Cemetery in Ft. Pierre.
Donald was born on March 18, 1950 in Mitchell, SD to Duane and Catherine (Flamming) Skinner. He attended Avery Country School first through eight grades near Mt. Vernon. He graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1968.
Starting in 1966, while attending high school, Donald also took a correspondence course from the Art Instruction School in Minneapolis, MN. Donald worked on this after school and chores; completing the course in 1969. After graduating from high school, Don went to Pierre and started a long career working for the State of South Dakota Department of Transportation, where he had almost 45 years of service. He was initially hired as a graphic artist working on many training manuals and doing a great many art work pieces for conferences and convention. He retired as a print shop technician.
In his spare time, he enjoyed doing original drawings of scenes pertaining to South Dakota. In September 1976, he married Colleen Valentine of Ft. Pierre. They made their home in Pierre. He retired in 2014: he and Colleen moved to Mitchell, SD.
Donald is survived by his brother, Kenneth (Pat) Skinner, sister, Carol (Greg) Terrill, brother, John (Sandy) Skinner, all of Mitchell, SD as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Colleen, his parents and one sister, Constance.
