Douglas Miller, 94, of Harrold, passed away Friday, October 20, 2023, at Avantara in Pierre, SD.

Doug was born in Bend, Oregon on July 17, 1929, to Paul and Velma (Graham) Miller. Doug was a Seabee in the Navy and was deployed to the Philippines, where he received his training as a diesel mechanic. Doug began and ended his career as a logging mechanic at Barclay Logging in Sisters, Oregon.
Doug married his wife, Judy, in Madras, Oregon in 1956 and lived in a logging camp in Sisters most of the year. They moved to a logging camp called Dahl Pine north of the Warm Springs Reservation in the spring. Doug and Judy built a house outside of Redmond, Oregon in 1964 and Doug lived there until 2011. Upon his retirement, he worked on cars on his property in Redmond.
Doug and Judy had a daughter, Terri, and lived happily until Judy’s death on August 1, 1964.
Doug married Pearl in 1970 and raised Terri and Pearl’s son, Joe. Pearl also had two adult daughters, Ruth and Margaret. Pearl passed away in 1995.
Doug married Letha, who had three grown children: Pam, Jackie, and Doug. Letha passed away in 2003.
Doug was an avid water skier for years and was the guy who could waterski without getting wet above his waist. Later, he converted his ski boat into a fishing boat as fishing replaced water-skiing as his passion and hobby. Doug enjoyed wintering in sunny Arizona where he met and married Evelyn in 2005. Doug and Evelyn lived in Redmond, Oregon until moving to Harrold, South Dakota in 2011 to be near Evelyn’s family, including one son, Dean, and three daughters, Janet, Julie, and Jackie. Evelyn’s son, Dale, passed away prior to their marriage. Evelyn’s family easily became additional family to Doug. He was truly blessed by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in Oregon, Idaho and South Dakota.
Doug will be remembered for his love of family, fishing, golf, playing horseshoes, games, and coffee with the guys. He was a very kind and loving person who liked to stay busy tinkering and fixing things.
Doug is survived by his wife, Evelyn; his daughter, Terri (Vance) Allen, Hayden, Idaho; grandson, Douglas (Alisha) Allen, Rathdrum, Idaho; great-grandson, Dax Allen, Rathdrum, Idaho; stepson, Joe (Kim) Grant, Keizer, Oregon; stepdaughter, Ruth (David) Brown, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; Margaret (Patrick) Poole, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; stepdaughter, Janet (Gerald) Thompson, Harrold, South Dakota; Dean (Jeanie) Ritter, Harrold, South Dakota; stepdaughter, Julie (Roger) Hanson, Gettysburg, South Dakota; stepdaughter, Jackie (Jay) Miller, Harrold, South Dakota; sister, Marilyn Poe, Sun Valley, Nevada; and Diane Miller, Boise, Idaho; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Velma Miller; a brother, Keith Miller; and his three wives, Judy, Pearl and Letha.
