PIERRE, SD – Ed Paul, 86, passed away on May 31, 2025, a Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 6th at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Isburg Funeral Chapel has been placed in care of the arrangements.
Ed was born on December 13, 1938, on the family farm near Strasburg, North Dakota, to John and Caroline (Horner) Paul. After graduating from country school, he attended Wahpeton Trade School and completed the heating and air conditioning program. On August 22, 1960, he married Ellen (Brandner) Paul at St Michael’s Church in Herreid, South Dakota. They moved to Pierre in 1961. To this union they were blessed with 6 children – Edwin Jr., Sharon, Karen, Loren, Lisa and Paula.
Ed worked for Schmidt Sheet Metal and then co-owned Oahe Plumbing and Heating. He started his own business, Paul’s Heating and Air Conditioning, in 1974. He was an extremely hard worker and was often called out on nights, weekends and holidays to restore heating or cooling to his many customers. Ed was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing, making German sausage, smoking meats and morning coffee with his coffee group.
Ed is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ellen; children Edwin Paul Jr. of Pierre, Sharon (Brian) Pruess of Pierre, Karen Rosen of Littleton, Colorado, Loren (Brenda) Paul of Pierre, Lisa Becker of Weston, Wisconsin; and son-in-law Brian Wagner of St. Paul, Minnesota. He is survived by 11 grandchildren; Stephanie Paul, Christopher Paul, Tyler (Molly) Pruess, Tanner (Brittany) Pruess, Lucas Rosen, Samuel Rosen, Nathan (Jen) Paul, Jordan (Abby) Paul, Brady (Katie) Becker, Brennen Becker and Alex Becker; and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Caroline Paul, his daughter Paula Paul, his son-in-law Ty Becker, and his 11 siblings.
Lunch will be served at the church after the burial.
