Edward T. Fenwick, 77, of Ft. Pierre passed away, Friday, December 1, 2023, at the Mary House Nursing Home in Pierre.
Edward T (Ted) Fenwick, Jr was born on 8/17/1946 in Lewellen, NE to Edward T and Anna Beatrice Fenwick Sr. Ted passed away after a short battle with cancer at Avera Maryhouse in Pierre, SD on December 1, 2023.
A remembrance in honor of Ted Fenwick will be held at The Moose Lodge in Ft. Pierre, SD on Friday, December 8th from 12:00 – 3:00 pm.
His family moved to Midland, SD area when he was 4 or 5 years old. He went to grade school in Midland for a couple of years and then went to Pleasant View country School through the 8th grade. He graduated from Midland High School in 1964. He attended one year of college in Trinidad, CO.
He was in the South Dakota National Guard Operating Eng out of Philip, SD from 1966 – 1972.
He worked construction in the Midland area and then went to work for Haakon Co Highway Dept. He married Ginger Petersen of Ridgeview, SD and they lived in the Milesville area for a few years. They have 2 daughters, Leslee (Jeremy) Zeiler of Spring Creek, NV and Trisha (Sonny) Togonon of San Diego, CA. He lived in the Ridgeview area for several years and raised hogs and sheep while working for Dewey Co Highway Dept. He then went to work for Johnson Brothers Construction who moved him out west to work on building the Interstate systems in SD and WY in the summer time. He also worked in the Bentonite Mines in the Belle Fourche area in the winter time. In 1978 he went to work in the coal mines for Carter Mining Co in Gillette, WY. He worked there until the spring of 1990. He then traveled the midwest and worked dirt work and hazardous material cleanup. He moved back to SD in 1993 and drove truck for Brice Peterson, of Eagle Butte, SD. Later moved to Fort Pierre and drove truck for Christy Lumber of Fort Pierre, SD and Dean Newman of Pierre, SD. He also worked a lot for Cody Briggs of Ft. Pierre, SD. Later he went to work for Morris Construction and AGE Corporation. His next job was for Sully Co Highway Dept for 10 years. He retired from Sully Co and then worked part time for Stanley Co Highway Dept for several years. His last few years he spent fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Ginger, of 54 years, daughter, Leslee (Jeremy) Zeiler of Spring Creek NV, twin grandsons, Zackary and Zephan Zeiler of Boise, Idaho, daughter, Trisha (Sonny) Togonon, grandson Tyler Togonon (friend Tiana Canja) and granddaughter Kaela Togonon (friend Mike D’Albero) all of San Diego, CA; One sister, Patricia Snook (friend Al Perry), Rapid City, SD, brothers Jerry (Karen) Fenwick of Arvada, CO, and John (Gail) Fenwick of Commerce City, CO and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Bea Fenwick, one brother-in-law Carl Snook, and his father-in-law Leslie Petersen.
