Ellitta Iron Eyes passed away on July 16, 2021, in Bismarck, ND.
Ellitta Rae Iron Eyes (Lita or Uncle Lita) was born on September 3, 1995, to Randi Stands Alone (Belgarde) and Alan Iron Eyes in Mobridge, South Dakota. She was the eldest of the pair’s four children: Sherilyn, Jay and Oroc Iron Eyes, all of Bismarck, ND. She has two older siblings from a previous marriage, Michelle and Randy Matthew Vettleson of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Ellitta was born with cerebral palsy, suffocated by the nurse, well waiting for the Dr so loss of air disabled her for life. She never let this lifelong diagnosis affect her love of competition nor did she take advantage of it. Though her family had many homes throughout her life from South Dakota to Washington, she kept her sights set on graduating high school. She achieved this in May 2015 from Woodrow Wilson High School in Fargo, ND. Through a family friend, Ellitta’s family would eventually go on to take Gavin Crazy Bear in and provide the young toddler a home, but Lita took him as her Hunka son. Hunka being a relationship resembling that of a parent and child.
Ellitta enjoyed visiting with family and friends, cruising around town and preferred to call versus text, sometimes for hours. You could find her playing music at any time of the day, cracking jokes, or passing out hugs. Lita’s experiences in life and her love for children led to aspirations of attending college to become a social worker. Her personality was like the sun; her presence was glowing and her laughter warmed hearts. With her caring and generous nature, she made life-long friends wherever she went. This quality also shows in her actions to become an organ donor. She donated her heart, liver, kidneys and pancreas to people and her ovaries to research.
Ellitta is survived by all her siblings and both parents, her Hunka son Gavin Crazy Bear, many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Paul and Laura Belgarde (Belcourt, ND) and paternal grandparents Edward Iron Eyes (Fort Yates, ND) and Ellitta Dogg (Wakpala, SD), whom she is named after.
