Funeral services for Erma E. Carda, 96, of White Lake, SD will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in White Lake, SD with burial in St. Margaret’s Catholic Cemetery in Kimball, SD. Visitation will begin Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a rosary at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in White Lake, SD.
Erma Elaine was born October 30, 1925 in Aberdeen, SD to Art and Pauline (Berndt) Knie. She attended country grade school and graduated from Northville High School. After high school, she attended business college in Aberdeen for three months before starting work at International Harvester Company. She worked there for six years before moving to the South Dakota Highway Department for the next four.
On June 11, 1953, Erma was united in marriage to John Carda at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen, SD. They spent their married life on a farm near Chelsea, SD where they raised their five children.
During her younger years, Erma was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Altar Society, Town and Country Extension Club of Faulk County, and the Young Business Girls of Aberdeen, SD.
After their retirement from the farm, Erma and John moved to Chamberlain, SD to live closer to their children and grandchildren. Most recently, Erma became a resident at Aurora Brule Nursing Home in White Lake, SD.
Erma passed away on July 5, 2022 at Avera Queen of Peace in Mitchell, SD at the age of 96 years. Gratefully sharing her life are her three daughters Donna Goodell of Sun City, AZ, Linda (Mike) Smith of Kimball, SD, and Carol (Ron) Gillen of White Lake, SD; her son David (Bunny) Carda of Chelsea, SD; eight grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren with another to arrive in September; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband John, her daughter Bette Hirsh, two sons-in-law Duke Goodell and Denny Hirsh, sister Dorothy Thorpe, and nephew Keith Breidenbach.
