Esther Jean (Dahlgren) Goldade was born December 29, 1937, at the Dahlgren farm 8 ½ miles southwest of Timber Lake. She was born after her twin sister, Estelle Jane (Dahlgren) Cook. The girls were inseparable, and she often told of them riding horse and being in parades.
Esther attended Stoick’s School and graduated from Timber Lake High School in 1955. She married John Goldade on December 26, 1956. They made their first home in Fort Chaffee, Arkansas, as John completed his military service station. Upon its completion, they moved back to Timber Lake and lived next to the lake.
Esther worked as a bookkeeper with the Timber Lake Cheese Company for 35 years, then with the Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels Program and then later the Timber Lake School cafeteria.
Esther’s hobbies were researching family history, taking pictures, organizing them and displaying them throughout her home. She would spend hours arranging newspaper clippings of family and friends in photo albums. Every year during Christmas, Esther would crochet little Santa socks that she would hand out to everyone to hang on their Christmas tree. She also enjoyed attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, John Goldade; parents, Herbert Jonas and Esther (Alquist) Dahlgren; brothers, Herb and Vince Dahlgren; and sisters, Anna Smolik and Florence Mitchell.
Esther is survived by her twin sister, Estelle Cook of Glad Valley, SD; children, Cathy (Craig) Lemburg and Lawrence (Debbie) Goldade, of Timber Lake, SD; Helen (Tim) Zabel, of Lowry, SD and Renee (Raymond) Andrzejewski, of Summerset, SD; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and numerous family and friends.
