Eva Marie Severson, 97, of Pierre passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Avera Maryhouse in Pierre.
Visitation will be from 6-7pm with a 7pm Prayer service and Rosary on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at Isburg Funeral Chapel in Pierre.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30am on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Onida, SD.

Eva Marie Josephine Serbousek was born August 7, 1925 on a farm in West Sully County to Joseph and Ella Mae (Pitlick) Serbousek. She attended grade school a mile north of the farm and high School in Onida. During the war teachers were in short supply and Northern State College offered a six-week teaching course. After obtaining her Teaching Certificate, Eva Marie taught at Grandview Pearl School for two years. In June of 1944 she apprenticed as a beautician at Ronnies Beauty Shop in Pierre and obtained a license one year later.
Eva Marie married Sigfred A. Severson on October 10, 1946. They lived In Onida, West Sully and North of Onida for 3 years. Sig bought land and made their home south of Onida in the fall of 1949, where they raised their five children, Larry, Alice, Jim, Peter and Ric. Eva Marie cared for her mother, Ella Serbousek, whom lived with her for just over 14 years. Sig and Eva Marie moved to Westport, SD in 1987, after 7 years they returned to the farm in Sully County. They were married for 57 years when Sig died in 2004.
Eva Marie’s greatest joy was her family and living on the farm. Sewing, cleaning, cooking, crocheting, gardening, refinishing furniture were all welcoming challenges. Family and friend gatherings were the best entertainment on weekends and holidays. She also enjoyed church work as her strong faith was her rock that guided her through life. In her later years she enjoyed cleaning houses for several people. In April of 2017 she moved to Parkwood Living Center in Pierre, SD.
Grateful for having shared in Eva Marie’s life are her children, Alice Jones (Bob) of Kansas City, James “Jim” Severson of Pierre, Peter “Pete” Severson (Trish) of Onida and Eric “Ric” Severson (Annette) of Pierre; daughter-in-law, Linda Severson of Pierre; 12 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Ella Serbousek; her bother, Lawrence Serbousek; husband, Sig; son, Larry and grandson, Eric Jones.
