Funeral Services for Evangeline Fasthorse age 93 of Cannon Ball, ND will be at 11 AM, CT on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Cannon Ball, ND. Burial at Fasthorse Family Cemtery under direction of Oster Funeral Home of Mobridge, SD. Evangeline entered the Spirit World on October 20, 2020 at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, ND. Eva Angela Fasthorse, 93 , of Cannonball, ND passed away October 21, 2020. Eva Angela also known as Evangeline was born July 27, 1927 in Eagle Butte, SD to Amos Elk Nation and Clara Tattooed Blue Lips. She was adopted by Henry and Ellen (Keepseagle) Ashes at the age of 2 years old. Evangeline married Edward Fasthorse in March of 1952. They were blessed with 9 children.
Evangeline attended elementary school at St. Bernard’s Mission School in Fort Yates, ND and also St. Joseph’s Indian school in Chamberlain, SD. She attended St. Paul’s Indian School in Marty, SD where she graduated high school in 1948. She attended college at Sitting Bull College, Bismarck Junior College, and Mary College. Evangeline worked in many places throughout the Standing Rock Reservation. She worked as a cook at the Cannonball Elementary school, the Cannonball Headstart, and the Cannonball Nutrition for Elderly. She served as the Cannonball Local District secretary and also on the Cannonball Oak Grove School Board. Evangeline was active in revitalizing the Dakota/Lakota language as she worked as a teacher in the language at Cannonball Elementary. She also traveled to University of Indiana with Regina Grant to partake in creation of one of the first Dakota Language Dictionaries. Evangeline was a fluent Lakota and Dakota language speaker. She is the matriarch for many families within the Cannonball community as she raised her children as well as other relatives’ children. Her home was always welcoming to her relatives. She enjoyed cooking and caring for others, no matter what time of day she always had something cooked at her home. Evangeline loved taking walks and going to church. She always enjoyed being a part of all denominations within the community. She enjoyed western shows and she always loved decorating and having family home for the holidays. Our Mom and Grandmother lived a long life so many of her friends and relatives have passed on.
She is survived by her children, Edward Swifthorse, Magdalene Fasthorse, Larry (Marvine)Fasthorse, Volney(Lori) Fasthorse, Edmund Fasthorse, Margaret Reynolds and Edsel Fasthorse. Cousins; George(Marilyn) Keepseagle, Paul(Elaine)Keepseagle, Clara Moya, Josephine Barnes.
Granddaughters, Michele( Brian) Fasthorse-Thunder Hawk, Amy Fasthorse, Sarita Fasthorse, Letise Bailey, Melissa White Eagle-Dodson, Summer White Twin and Jonessa White Twin. Grandsons, Benedict Fasthorse, Cortez Fasthorse, Edison (Geri)Fasthorse, Robert Foolbear, Caine Demery, Casey Fasthorse, Brandon Fasthorse, Larson (Amber)Fasthorse, Jacob Fasthorse, Grant Fasthorse, Brent Carry Moccasin, Sky Carry Moccasin, Darius Fasthorse, Rhett Fasthorse, Hank Fasthorse, Dominic Swift Horse, Bryan Silk, Bryce Silk, Jordan Thunder Hawk.
