Frank O’Neil Iron Cloud, Sungwathogla Obinyanka (Runs With Wild Horses) is the son of the late Thomas and Rita Iron Cloud. He was born in Ft. Yates, ND on September 23, 1960. He was raised in Little Oak Creek and spent most of his childhood riding horses. When he wasn’t breaking and training his 20 plus horses, Frank and his brothers and cousins would practice on a bucking barrel they made which was entertainment for all the siblings and cousins. After the family moved to McLaughlin during his teenage years, he joined the Pudwills boxing team. Frank was a golden glove boxer but his love for horses always took him back out to his uncle Simon Pete Iron Cloud’s ranch. He did a lot of work for his uncle Pete tending to cattle. Frank had that one special horse, “Big Red”, he would always ride when he went hunting or rounding up cattle or just hanging out with his uncle Pete. Frank met Doris Weasel and they made their home in Little Eagle and later moved to Mobridge where he started working at the Mobridge Care Center providing for his wife and her children. From this union, they had 2 children, Frankie, a daughter, and O’Neil, a son. In 1990 Frank relocated to Westminster, CO staying with his sister, Lee, and working in Englewood, CO. He decided to try and finish his education, signing up for GED classes where he met Johnna Gresko. They married in 1992 and had 3 sons, Russell, Walter and Donald. They lived in Pine, CO and again his love of horses had him raising horses in the mountains of Pine, CO. Frank later returned home to care for his mother in McLaughlin. After his mother passed, due to his own health he moved into a care center in Rapid City. Though he enjoyed the visits from his older brother, Del, he moved closer to home at the Mobridge Care Center. Later he moved into the River Ridge Apartments where he earned the nickname, “Hot Wheels” for being in a wheel chair. Frank was a very independent man until December 21, 2021 when he decided to leave his Hot Wheels behind to make his journey home.
