Frank R. Jones, 87, of Gettysburg, passed away Friday, February 25, 2022 at his home.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 18, 2022 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 530 S Mannston St, Gettysburg, SD. Burial will follow in the Gettysburg Cemetery with military honors.
Frank Ross Jones was born on October 10, 1934 in Gettysburg, South Dakota. He was born to Otis and Alma (Gorman) Jones and was the second of three children. Frank had an enjoyable childhood along with his older brother, Gerald and younger sister, Carol. Frank attended Kula School and Gettysburg High School where he excelled at playing football.
Frank served in the US Army from 1955-1957 and was stationed in Germany, where he got his fill of world travel. Frank took over the family farm when he returned from the military due to his father’s death in 1955. Frank always enjoyed small town life. He rarely traveled out of state and was content to be on the farm that he loved.
Frank loved hunting, farming, playing his guitar and flying airplanes. He was a private man with a big heart. He remained close to Gerald and Carol throughout his life and called monthly to catch up with them.
Frank was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having joined with his family, when he was 9 years old. He served in many callings in the Gettysburg branch of the church over the years.
Frank is preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Alma Jones, and his brother, Gerald E. Jones. He is survived by his sister, Carol Lowry (David) of Magrath, Alberta, Canada, and numerous nieces and nephews throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Frank’s arrangements.
