Freida Quenzer, 99, Eureka, SD, passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at the Avera Eureka Healthcare Center.
Freida Marie Seibold, daughter of Marie (Pepple) and William Seibold, was born August 5, 1921 at Cathay, ND. Freida’s faith journey began at an early age when she accepted Jesus as her Savior. She was baptized and became a member of the Baptist Church in Cathay. She got her education through eighth grade at a country school, a little over a mile from home. She walked to school most of the time and sometimes caught a ride with the neighbor kids by horse and buggy. Later, at the age of 65, Freida took GED classes and the test to get her high school diploma. She helped on the family farm growing up and learned to cook, sew, and take care of the vegetable and flower gardens. At harvest time, she worked with her brother to shock the grain. Freida also worked with her older sister in a cook car, preparing meals for the threshing crew. She loved music, sang duets, trios, and in the church choir. She played the organ, guitar and accordion. She was united in marriage to Adam K. Quenzer on Monday, August 22, 1955, at the Baptist Church in Cathay. They were blessed with four children, Christal Kay, Joyce Marie, Lyle Adam and Mavis Faye. The couple made their home on a farm west of Eureka, SD. After 20 years of marriage, Adam passed away suddenly on November 4, 1975. Freida and her children moved to Eureka in the spring of 1976. She was the head cook for the Senior Center. Later, she worked at the Lutheran Home. She loved the outdoors and went for daily walks. She spent many hours in her beautiful flower gardens and yard. During the winter months, Freida was busy designing and sewing polyester quilts, which she shared with every member of her family. She moved to the Avera Eureka Healthcare Center in 2004. Her biggest pride while she lived there was taking care of the flower beds, until her health declined.
Freida is survived by her children: Christal (Gary T.) Krein, Rapid City, SD; Joyce (Lyle) Dabbert, Canistota, SD; Lyle (Pat) Quenzer, Artas, SD.
