June 2nd 1945-December 11th 2020 Funeral services are scheduled for December 29th 2020, 11:00 am at the Cannon Ball Red Gym, with burial services to follow at 3 pm at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery (Mandan ND.) under direction of Oster Funeral Home of Mobridge, SD. There will be a visual on December 28th 2020 from 5pm to 7pm at Oster Funeral Home (Mobridge SD.) Rev, Antoine American Horse will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Duke’s life. Please remember due to COVID Regulations Social Distancing is recommended and encouraged by the Family.
George “DUKE” Fool Bear (Mato Luta Niya), died Peacefully December 11th 2020 at Sanford Hospital Bismarck, ND at the age of 75.
Duke is survived by 4 sons Gerard Fool Bear (Cannon Ball), George (Shawn) Fool Bear Jr (Cannon Ball), Jesse (Stephanie) Black Cloud (Cannon Ball), Phillip See Walker (Cannon Ball), and 5 daughter Stacy Fool Bear (Steven) Dogskin (Cannon Ball), Jeanette Black Cloud (Cannon Ball), Patricia Black Cloud (Porcupine), Clarice Black Cloud (Cannon Ball), Verdilia American Horse (Cannon Ball), 5 brothers Ervin Plenty Chief ( Delphine) (Cannon Ball), Sidney John Cottonwood (Rhonda) (Denver), Pete Red Tomahawk (Alvina) (Cannon Ball), Hershel White Lightning (Fort Yates), Gerald Ironshield (Fort Yates), and 4 Sisters Alva Cottonwood-Gabe (Fort Yates), Arverdell See Walker (Fort Yates), LaVonne Running Bear (Fort Yates) as well as many cousins, nephews, nieces, friends and Grandchildren that he loved with all his heart. Duke is preceded in death by his Wife of many years Mary Rose Fool Bear (Cannon Ball) and parents, Chuck and Rose Fool Bear, (Cannon Ball), as well as many other brothers, sisters, and relatives.
Duke was born on June, 2nd 1945 and Joined the US ARMY after high school where he was a heavy equipment operator stationed in Germany. Duke married Mary Rose after he got out of the ARMY and raised their children and built a life in Cannon Ball, ND where he worked Several Jobs with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Duke enjoyed watching his Grandchildren grow up and was always there to cheer them on at one of their sporting events, or watching the Boys ride at Rodeo’s or dance at Pow Wow’s, He was a very loving and caring man who enjoyed visiting with his many friends and family members whenever he could.
