On March 26, 2022, Gerald (Jerry) Lee Thielen left his earthly constraints and entered the Kingdom of Heaven.
Family will be greeting visitors during a coffee and donuts hour from 9:30-10:30am, Tuesday, July 5, 2022 followed by inurnment at Riverside Cemetery.
He entered this world on February 20, 1960, the fourth of six sons born to Harry Albert Thielen and Mildred Jane (Schumacher) Thielen. He was raised in Pierre, South Dakota and there attended public schools, graduating as a Governor in 1978 from T.F. Riggs High School.
To accommodate his illnesses, he resided in assisted living facilities throughout his adult life with frequent and welcomed visits from his oldest brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Roxie, often tagging along was his next oldest brother, Jimmy. As a Governor, he enjoyed listening to, watching, and attending Governor athletic events. The Green Bay Packers was his favorite football team and he did not have any love loss for the Minnesota Vikings, even with his “cousin” Adam Thielen on their roster. The origins of Rock-n-Roll were his music of choice, something that he has passed on to his nieces and nephews.
Now knowing only joy and peace, he was met with loving embraces from those already Above, his brother, James Allen Thielen; his father, Harry Albert Thielen; and his mother, Mildred Jane Thielen.
His brothers, nieces, and nephews saying “goodbye for now” are Bob and Roxie Thielen of Pierre, South Dakota; Bill Thielen and Bob Cerchio of Carbondale, Illinois; James Thielen’s son Damon and Jessica Thielen, Vada and Vance of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Mark and Michelle Thielen, Anderson, Addie Jane and Millie of Springfield, Illinois; and Dave and Nancy Thielen, Bryn and Bergen Jane of Atlanta, Georgia.
Thank you to the Sunset Manor staff in Irene, South Dakota for the wonderful care and concern shown to Jerry. We know you are missing Jerry’s special way of brightening your day as he fondly picked on each of you.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
With love and many memories, finally Rest in Peace, our brother — Jer Kat.
