Gladys Pudwill, 93, of Herreid passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at the Walworth County Care Center. Family services will be held on Wednesday, August 2nd at 10:30 AM at the First Reformed Church in Herreid. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.
Gladys (Brown) Pudwill was born to Clark and Anna (Chillquist) Brown on February 23, 1930, on a farm west of Selby, SD. She attended country schools until her father’s death in 1939. Following his death she moved into Selby with her mother, two brothers and two sisters. She attended grade school and high school in Selby, graduating in 1948. After high school Gladys attended Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen. She taught at rural schools for five years.
Gladys married Alton “Tony” Pudwill on June 7, 1953, in Selby. They made their home in Mobridge for five years then moved to Herreid in 1958. She worked as a Chapter 1 math tutor for 21 years in the Herreid School.
Family was very important to Gladys and enjoyed traveling and spending time with them. She also enjoyed birdwatching, bowling and spending time with her friends and neighbors during coffee parties and playing cards. She was an active member of the First Reformed Church in Herreid.
Gladys is survived by three sons, Tom (Rhonda) of Glendale, AZ, Tim of Herreid, and Todd (Colette) of Herreid, two daughters, Tam Kerl of Tea, SD, and Tari (Brian) London of Sioux Falls, 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Arlys Brown of Selby.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Tony in 1975, daughter-in-law, Julie Pudwill in 2003, son-in-law, Kevin Kerl in 2008, two brothers, Walter Brown and Harold Brown, two sisters, Helen Brown and Mabel (Arthur) Sievert.
The family would like to thank the Walworth County Care Center for the wonderful care they provided for Gladys.
