GETTYSBURG, SD – Glenn L. Umiker, 81, of Gettysburg, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at his home.
Private family services will be held in the spring.
Glenn Umiker was born on July 28, 1943, to Leonard and Edna (Griese) Umiker at Gettysburg, South Dakota. He grew up on a farm near Gettysburg, attended Mickelson Country School and graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1961. Glenn attended South Dakota State University and graduated with a degree in Agriculture Education. He taught Agriculture at several schools including: Wilmot, Wessington Springs, New Zealand, ND, Becker, MN, and Gettysburg for ten years and then worked for the SD Department of Agriculture for ten years. For a brief period of time, Glenn worked for Huron Dressed Beef. He came back to the Umiker family farm in 1988 to help with daily farming operations. Glenn retired from farming in 2011.
Glenn enjoyed gardening and poultry. He helped his nieces and nephew with their 4-H projects. Glenn spent many weekends at the Stave farm helping out with several tasks and projects over the years.
Glenn is survived by his sister, Ilene Stave, Webster, SD, two nieces, Barbara (Burt) Andersh of Watertown, SD and Ardis (Steve) Moeller of Brandon, SD; one nephew, Leslie (Wanda) Stave of Ankeny, IA; great nieces and nephew, Brittany (Tony) Valnes, Brooke (Jesse) Morrow, Nicholas Moeller, Courtney Moeller, Carmen Moeller, and Emily Stave and three great-great nieces, Summer Valnes, Fallyn and Scottlyn Morrow.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law, Arden Stave.
