Gordon Sylvan Spotted Horse, 82, of Mobridge, passed away, Thursday, November 28, 2024, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen. Funeral services for Gordon Spotted Horse, 82 of Mobridge will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at 10:30 am at Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the services in the funeral home. Interment will be at the All Nations Veterans Cemetery, rural Ft. Yates.
Gordon was born on October 2, 1942 along the Grand River on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation to David and Isabel Spotted Horse. He attended country school in Corson County and in Mobridge. He loved and enjoyed life. Gordon served his country during the Vietnam War. He received the Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and his medal for Marksman Rifle. After his military service, he became a certified heavy equipment operator working for decades in road construction in many places. Gordon was mechanically inclined and loved fixing cars. He worked at a youth camp teacher as a team leader teaching them various skills as well as basic life management skills. He also raised cattle and horses, cutting hay for them as needed. In Gordon’s later years his health began to decline due to various factors, including Agent Orange exposure, various difficult hardships and advancing age. He tried to understand other people and make sense of life. Gordon took an interest in various treaty concern and obligations. He liked to discuss social and justice issues.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents at one brother. He is survived by his sister, Patricia Spotted Horse.
