Harriet was born on January 23, 1927 at Old Agency. Her father was Fredrick Pay Pay and mother was Christine Pretty Bear Pay Pay. Harriet was the oldest of 8 siblings. She grew up on the mouth of The Moreau River which is known as Blackfoot South Dakota. In her younger years Harriet and family had a homestead that was very beautiful as she would tell us. Before the water was released her family was moved up to higher ground known today as Blackfoot Community.
Harriet married James Cedric Meeter, and from this union she had 7 children Verna (deceased) MaryAgnes (deceased) Isaac (deceased) James of Eagle Butte, Bella of Swiftbird, Ella of Eagle Butte, Burl of Eagle Butte.

Harriet learned many traditions and would tell us when it was time to gather from the lands.
Picking chokecherries, buffalo berries, Turnip digging and many other traditions to prepare for changes in seasons. Mother was always sewing quilts by hand, Crazy Quilts, Block, she would collect old flannel shirts, blue jeans and we would have a Beautiful Quilt for winter’s cold nights. Harriet learned to iron patterns and embordering dish towels, another hobby of hers. She loved to bake and cook for her family. Our mother was always playing cards, or search-a- word books. She would sit outside in the sun always. Watching her grandchildren playing just enjoying the day. Harriet enjoyed attending church, always supported families, she would stay up all night at wakes services.
Harriet supported the Rattling Hail Sundance every year. Always praying for everyone, such compassion, so much love for her family, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, great great great grandchildren.
