Hilary J. Lapp, 84, Eureka, SD, died Friday, November 25, 2022 at the Avera Eureka Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at Lien-Straub-Carlsen Chapel, Eureka, led by Pastor Ryan Gage. Organist will be Robin Wolff and the congregation will sing “Rock of Ages” and “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”. Interment follows at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Eureka.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM Monday and resumes 12 noon Tuesday at Lien-Straub-Carlsen Chapel.
Hilary John Lapp, son of Martha (Thurn) and Adolph Lapp, was born at the Lapp farm 4 ½ miles SE of Eureka on May 10, 1938. He attended Stickel #2 Rural School. He then began his life’s vocation of being a farmer. In 1965, Hilary, his brother, Donald, and his sister Ruth relocated to Eureka and Hilary continued farming until his retirement in 2010. Since December 2021, Hilary lived at the Healthcare Center. He was a member of Zion American Lutheran Church in Eureka. Hilary was a league bowler and also enjoyed reading, collecting toy farm equipment, and making model cars.
Hilary is survived by one brother, Donald, of Eureka; one sister, Marlene Rieger, of Omaha, NE; and nine nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Adolph, on August 17, 1964; his mother, Martha, on September 22, 1965; two brothers—Ruben Sr. and Marvin; and two sisters—LaVina Keil and Ruth Lapp.
Casketbearers will be Robert Keil of Aberdeen, SD; Ruben Lapp, Jr. of Redfield, SD; Greg Rieger of Omaha; Barry Lapp of Eureka; and Jim Wilson of Bruce, SD.
Services are in care of Lien-Straub-Carlsen Chapel of Eureka.
