Pauline B. Eagle Chasing, 87, of Cherry Creek, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at IHS Hospital, Eagle Butte.

In compliance with the CRST Tribal Directives, private family services were held Friday, November 13, 2020 at the Blue Gym, Cherry Creek. Burial followed at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Cemetery, Cherry Creek.

Unci Pauline was born on August 21, 1933 in Cherry Creek, South Dakota to Narcisse Eagle Chasing and Bessie Yellow Owl.

Unci Pauline grew up in the country west of Cherry Creek where she enjoyed riding horses. She later moved to Cherry Creek. She attended Old Agency Boarding School. Unci Pauline was a caregiver for many families that worked for the Cherry Creek Day School. She also was the cook for the Cherry Creek Headstart.

Unci Pauline really enjoyed her beadwork and making quilts. She also enjoyed going to rummage sales. She enjoyed going to Church and watching Church services on tv. Her best pastime was watching her grandchildren’s sports activities.

Unci Pauline was a fluent Lakota speaker as Lakota was her first language. She enjoyed telling stories in Lakota to her family. She used stories from her Lala Silas Yellow Owl to pass on teachings and values of life. They would begin with “Ehani Lala Heye sa” (long time ago, grandpa used to say). She also enjoyed her daily morning coffee visits with her sister Linda Marrowbone.

In 2013 Unci Pauline moved to the Medicine Wheel Village in Eagle Butte. While there she enjoyed visiting with residents and participating in activities such as the staff’s live dance videos.

Unci Pauline is survived by her children: Marlon Yellow Owl, Iris Eagle Chasing, and Kathleen Eagle Chasing, grandchildren: Kate Condon, DeeAnn Eagle Chasing, Craig Dupris, Braden Dupris, Branden Dupris, Kaitlyn Dupris, Nicole Eagle Chasing, Kurt Eagle Chasing, and LaChelle Eagle Chasing; great-grandchildren: Raden Eagle Chasing, Randen Eagle Chasing, Bessie Eagle Chasing, McKenna Dupris, Kinsey Condon, Kia Dupris, King Dupris, Briella Dupris, Baby Branden Dupris, Kadynse Buffalo, K’Launa Buffalo, Yasmin Eagle Chasing, Dakota Longbrake, Cash Eagle Chasing, Landen Clown, Kamryn Clown, and Evelynn RedTomahawk; sister, Virginia White Feaher; nephews; Dewey Marrowbone, Scott Marrowbone, Beryle Marrowbone, Mickey White Feather and Jeff White Feather; nieces: Robyn Claymore, Ophelia Dupris, Edna Tyndall, Germaine LeClaire, EvAnn White Feather, and Gail White Feather; cousins, Russel Benoist and Roland Roach Sr.; adopted daughter, Audrey Antelope.

Unci Pauline was preceded in death by her father and mother, Narcisse Eagle Chasing and Bessie Yellow Owl; daughters, DeeAnne Demery and Delema Eagle Chasing; grandfather and grandmother, Silas Yellow Owl and Sara Hump Yellow Owl; sisters, Linda Marrowbone and Katherine Yellow Owl; great-grandson, Farell Eagle Chasing; nephews, Gary Marrowbone Jr., Orville Marrowbone, Royce Marrowbone, and Justin Marrowbone; niece, Erma Marrowbone.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Pauline’s arrangements.
