Jack O’Dea, 88, of Fort Pierre, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2022. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00pm, Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at Feigum Funeral Home. Funeral Services will begin at 1:00pm, Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at Feigum Funeral Home with interment following at Scotty Philip Cemetery. A full life story is forthcoming.

John Sylvester O’Dea “Jack” was born August 10,1933, in Philip, SD the son of John and Edna (Bennett) O’Dea. He was the oldest son in a family of 15 children. He attended rural grade schools and his mother Edna later home schooled he and his siblings. He then attended Philip High School. After high school he worked on the family farm, helping his parents raise his younger siblings.
He was drafted into the Army in 1953 and was stationed in Germany, where he worked on airplanes. When honorably discharged in 1955, he returned to the farm at Ottumwa. He then started working towards owning his cattle ranch. He broke horses for neighbors and raised bum lambs until he could get enough money to buy cattle.
On October 25, 1968, he married Charlotte (Kleinschmidt) Bergeson and raised her 3 children as his own. In 1970 and 1971 the couple was blessed with two more children. He worked on his ranch raising kids, grandkids, cattle and horses until 2008 when he semi-retired and moved to Ft. Pierre. Up until 2019, he would drive to his ranch almost every day to check horses and cattle.
Jack is survived by his wife Charlotte, one son Patrick O’Dea and his wife Lori and their children Cody and Luke and Luke’s son Copelee; one daughter Tammie O’Dea and her son Colin O’Dea, three step children: Bernie, Kirby, Annis and her husband Dana and their children Soren and Sierra; three great grandchildren, five brothers: Gene, Jerry, Leo, Richard, Jim and his wife Vonnie, six sisters: Maurine, Phyllis and her husband Marvin, Lillian and her husband Eddie, Rosella and her husband Tom, Loraine, and Mary. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Dennis and Dean and one sister Bonna.
