PIERRE, SD – Jacqueline “Jackie” Marso,93, of Pierre passed away on August 16, 2024, at Avera St. Mary’s in Pierre surrounded by her family. A visitation will be held at Isburg Funeral Chapel on Monday, August 19 from 5:00pm-7:00pm with a 6:00pm Rosary and Wake Service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, August 20 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with burial at Calvary Cemetery in Pierre. Jackie was Born on October 18, 1930, in Onida, South Dakota, to Jack and Betty (Kirsch) Reedy and shared her childhood with her twin sister, Jeannine. Jackie’s early years were spent in Onida, where she grew up and attended school, graduating in 1948. After graduation, she moved to Pierre and began working for the state of South Dakota. It was in Pierre that she met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Marso. Jackie and Bob were united in marriage on December 30, 1950, and together they built a life in Pierre raising their four children Paul, Kathy, Patti, and Jeff.
They started in business with Bob’s parents in 1951 at Marso’s Beer Parlor and later opened the first privately owned liquor lounge in Pierre, known as Bob’s Lounge, they also owned and operated the Iowa Motel for three years.
Jackie was deeply committed to her faith and community. A devout Catholic, she was an active member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, where she served as a Lay Minister of Communion and volunteered. She coordinated community-driven projects such as the Avenue of Flags in Hilger’s Gulch and Candy Cane Lane. Her dedication to service extended to her involvement with the St. Mary’s Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary, where she volunteered her time and energy to support veterans and their families.
Jackie’s love for her family was the cornerstone of her life. She is survived by her children, Paul (Dawn) Marso of Pierre, Jeff (Kim) Marso of Rapid City, Kathy (Crow) Harford of Pierre, and Patti Petersen of Ft. Pierre. She is also survived by her four wonderful grandchildren, McKayla (Seamus) McDonough, Nick (Liz) Marso, Jack Marso, Jayce Marso and her three great-grandchildren Calvin, Hazel and Rogan. Also surviving is her brother-in-law Fred and his wife Anita Marso and many nieces and nephews. Jackie’s life was enriched by their presence, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob, her parents, her twin sister Jeannine and husband Bob Hittle and son-in-law Mervin (Pete) Petersen.
