FREEMAN, SD – Jacqueline Kay Miller, 83, of Freeman, SD and formerly of Pierre, SD died Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at Freeman Regional Nursing Home in Freeman.
Celebration of life will be 2:00pm, Thursday, January 30, 2025 at Isburg Funeral Chapel in Pierre. Burial of cremated remains will take place at Riverside Cemetery.
Jacqueline Kay Dolan was born on May 12, 1941 in Huron, SD to Buell and Mary (Engler) Dolan. Jacqui grew up in Mitchell, SD and graduated from Mitchell Notre Dame High School. In 1961, she graduated from Presentation Junior College in Aberdeen, SD and later received her B.A. degree in elementary education at Dakota Wesleyan University. For many years Jacqui taught school at Fort Pierre, Pierre Catholic School and Jefferson School in Pierre. She had a passion for teaching that created a friendship with former students and other teachers in each school system.
In 1962, Jacqui met Vern Miller while both of them were teaching in Fort Pierre. They were married on July 3rd, 1963 in Mitchell, SD. The union was blessed with three sons: Anthony, Christopher and Aaron. The family moved to Pierre in 1968 and were employed by the Pierre School System. After many years in the school system, both of them retired in 1998.
During retirement, Jacqui enjoyed playing bridge, reading books and meeting friends for coffee. In the winter months, Jacqui and Vern were snowbirds in Mesa, Arizona. They met new friends, enjoyed the weather and attended sporting events at Arizona State College in Tempe. Jacqui enjoyed all the amenities at Sun Life Park and always had time for the four o’clock social hour.
After living many years in Pierre, Jacqui and Vern moved to Freeman, SD in 2022. Because of her health, she was admitted to Freeman Regional Nursing Home. Jacqui was a kind and giving person. Throughout her life she had a solid faith in the Lord and was involved with the church where ever she lived.
She is survived by her husband: Vern Miller of Freeman; three sons: Anthony (Dana) of Sioux Falls, Christopher (Bonnie) of Sioux Falls and Aaron (Michell) of Rapid City. Also, two brothers: Michael (Nancy) of Ottawa, Canada and David (Vickie) of Ann Arbor, Michigan and seven loving grandchildren: Luke, Jordan, Lizzie, Grace, Noah, Alec and Jake.
Jacqui was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers: Kim, Terry and Rick.
Arrangements have been placed in the care of Isburg Funeral Chapel of Pierre.
