James Arthur Wright, 79, of Gettysburg, SD, passed away peacefully Monday, December 2, 2024, at Avera Missouri River Health Center, Gettysburg.

A celebration of his life will be held next summer in Spokane, WA, where family and friends will come together to honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, cards may be sent to 607 E. Lincoln Ave., Gettysburg, SD 57442.

James was born December 18, 1944, in Hollywood, CA. James proudly served in the Navy before embarking on a career as a mechanical and electrical engineer. Throughout his life, James was driven by a love for adventure, a passion for fishing, shooting, and hunting, and an appreciation for the outdoors, which brought him immense joy. He also wrote a novel, leaving behind a testament to his creativity and storytelling.

James was a devoted husband to his wife, Lilla, and together they raised four daughters in Spokane, WA. James poured his heart into his family, and his love, guidance, and wisdom will forever be cherished by all who knew him. James was a kind and loving father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Lilla; daughters, Jenny, Laura, and Jamie; his brothers, Jerry, David, and Larry; his sister, Kathy; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first-born daughter, Leah, his brother, Ron, and many other family members and friends.

James’s life was a journey of love, adventure, and accomplishment, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
