Janet Marie Michalek was born on February 25th, 1954 at Chamberlain SD to Melvin Michalek and Irene (Desheuquette) Michalek. Janet was called home to be with the Lord on December 5th, 2022 at Sanford Hospital in Chamberlain SD at the age of 68 years. She passed away peacefully while surrounded by family.
Janet attended K-8th grade at Terraville SD and freshman year in Lead SD. In 1969 Janet moved to Lower Brule SD where she finished her high school career graduating in 1972. She had various job throughout her life but her real passion was cooking. She loved to cook for other people and family gatherings. She was often asked to cook for the powwow and various programs. She loved going to the casino, bingo, and enjoyed playing Gin Rummy and spades on her computer. She also loved to go fishing. In Janet’s later years she loved going thrift shopping with her brother Dallas. Shortly after her sister Dianne retired she became solely dependent on her sister Janet while she was battling cancer herself. Janet then went into remission and was cancer free for 11 months. In May 2020, she lost her sister Dianne and her cancer returned.
Janet is survived by her brother Dallas (Carla) Michalek of Lower Brule SD, Her sister Patsy (Sonny) Michalek of Chamberlain SD. Her good friends Gwen Jandreau and Edith Thigh whom she was very close with and considered her sisters. Her children Melray Grey Owl of Lower Brule SD, Nicole (Vinnie) Grey Owl of Denver Colorado, Kara St. John, Antionette Fast Wolf, Tiffany Mclaughlin and Hank Fast Wolf all of Lower Brule SD. Her Grandsons Cody, Kyran, And Caden Medicine Eagle, Shane and Everett Grey Owl, Joe Mosseau, Iren Grassrope, Luca Two Bulls and Nick Kautz Jr.
Her Granddaughters Amanda Grey Owl, D’Kera, Daylon, and Irene Grassrope, Betty Jo Laroche, Jesse Grey Owl, Deanna and Alicia Mousseau, Kyla St. John, Leslie and Dallas Hanson, and Skyla Kautz.
Her beloved great grandchildren: Cody III, Kyran II, Caden II, Kendrick, Saiken & Camellia.
Preceding Janet in death were her parents Melvin and Irene (Desheuquette) Michalek, Her brother Darrell Michalek and sisters Dianne and Gwen Michalek, a grandson Landon Gayton and Maternal grandparents Pearl Fogg and Jasper Desheuquette.
