Jeaniene G. Woodford, 89, of Gettysburg, SD, passed away Monday, November 4, 2024, at Avera Oahe Manor, Gettysburg.
To honor her wishes there will be no local funeral service, and a family memorial service and burial will take place in the Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, at a later date.
Jeaniene Woodford was born Jeaniene Grace Tollefson, the fifth of six daughters of Tollak and Stella (Oakland) Tollefson, and raised on a farm near Bonilla, SD. The Tollefson family centered their lives in faith and remained connected to the Bonilla Presbyterian Church. Jeaniene cherished that small rural church her entire life.
On June 7, 1953, Jeaniene married Donald Woodford in Huron, SD and they spent the next 37 amazing years together. The couple lived in Hardin, Montana; near Phillip, South Dakota; and raised cattle near Faulkton, South Dakota before moving to Gettysburg, South Dakota in 1964. They spent many years fishing on Lake Oahe and shared their love of this place with many family members and friends.
Jeaniene was the mother to three children and their spouses: Lela and John Rentschler of Howard, SD, Delton Woodford and wife, Carmen Combellick of Gettysburg, SD, and Bryan Woodford and Kirsten Kirwin of Bremerton, WA; and a loving grandmother to six: Kari, Eric, Lisa and Sara Rentschler; and Courtney and Kelsey Woodford.
Jeaniene enjoyed life, cherished her faith and time spent with her family and friends. She and Donald opened Woodford Realty in Gettysburg and Jeaniene held an active real estate license for over 50 years. She also served on the Gettysburg School Board for several years in addition to constantly improving homes and helping a myriad of people in need over the years.
She is survived by sons, Delton (Carmen) and Bryan (Kirsten); son-in-law, John Rentschler; brother-in-law, Jack Harris; and six wonderful grandchildren.
Jeaniene was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; daughter, Lela; five sisters; and five brothers-in-law.
