Jerzy Twarog, 75, of Mobridge, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2023, at the Mobridge Regional Hospital in Mobridge. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, July 6, 2023, at the Kesling Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to services under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home.
Jerzy Twarog was born in Poland to Stefan and Eugienia Twarog and was the second of four siblings, two sisters and a brother. He lived in Poland until moving to the United States with his wife Alina in 2010 to be with his daughter.
Papi attended and completed school for auto mechanics. He spoke Polish and Russian.
Papi began working as a transit bus driver for years. He worked as a truck driver and had his own business as a cab driver. Jerzy took care of his family. He was a good husband and father. He gave them the things that were needed and more.
In 1969, Papi married the love of his life, Alina. They had two children, a son, Piotr and a daughter, Agnieszka.
After moving to Mobridge, South Dakota with his wife Alina in tow, he started working for Lucky’s with his daughter. When she started working for ShopKo, he went with her. He worked there until they closed. He worked for a time with West Side Meats and at Merkels. After this, he started as a contract newspaper carrier for the Aberdeen News with the help of Stephen Jewett, his son-in-law and grandsons; Stephen Jewett, Jr. and Rafe Jewett.
Jerzy retired in 2018 giving him time to spend working on his home. Papi loved to watch old western movies, play card games on his computer, and enjoyed traveling.
He made many trips with his family to Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Diego, Minneapolis, Denver, Grand Canyon, Devil’s Tower, Spearfish Canyon, Mount Rushmore, and many other locations.
Jerzy loved nature and the animals and was a good-natured man. He loved to play with his cats and watch the birds; he often fed them.
Papi’s favorite food was seafood, red beet soup and pierogi. He was a humble man, eating anything put in front of him. He loved gardening. He grew vegetables and made juice from them. He also like smoked foods like fish and wild game. He often went fishing with his in-laws and grandsons during season. During pheasant hunting season, his son-in-law would take his grandson’s hunting and give the pheasants to Babcia and Papi. Papi always said “thank you” with a smile!
Jerzy is preceded in d3eath by his father, Stefan and mother, Eugienia Twarog and his brother, Marian Twarog.
Jerzy is survived by his wife, Alina Twarog, his son; Piotf Twarog and his wife Ela Twarog, grandsons; Damian Twarog and his wife Angelica, with great grandson, Filip and great-granddaughter Wiktora. Also surviving is his daughter, Agnieszka Twarog and ex-husband Stephen Jewett and their sons, Stephen Jewett, Jr. and Rafe Jewett.
