John Bartlett, 68, of Pierre, SD, died Monday, May 10, 2021 at Avera Maryhouse Long Term Care in Pierre. Memorial graveside services will be held at 11:30am on Thursday, June 3rd at the Catholic Cemetery in Wanblee SD.
John David Bartlett was born December 19, 1952 to Rudolph Leonard Bartlett and Victoria Charlotte Big Head in Kadoka, South Dakota. He received his elementary education and graduated from the Kadoka High School in 1969. John enlisted in the South Dakota National Guard on June 7, 1974 and received an honorable discharge October 7, 1974.
Besides Kadoka, John also lived in Yankton and Rapid City and eventually settled in Pierre where he spent the remainder of his days. If you were to visit with John you would know that you would want to be a fan of the old western movies like Bonanza and Rawhide and especially any westerns with John Wayne. When David wasn’t watching his favorite westerns he enjoyed his snacks, reading and taking walks.
John is survived by two sisters and six brothers: Twila Dillon, Greeley, Co. and Lorencia Bartlett, Rapid City, SD. Steven Bartlett and Clint Bartlett, Eagle Butte, SD; Leonard Bartlett, Rapid City, SD; Wade Bartlett, Sioux Falls, SD; Burt Richards, Pine Ridge, SD and George Big Head of Colorado Springs, CO. He is also survived by two uncles: Marvin Bartlett, Rapid City, SD and Lester Bartlett, Bemidji, MN and a special niece, Shelby Bernie, Phoenix, AZ.
Preceding John in death are his parents and siblings: George Bartlett, Edward Bartlett, Paulette Bartlett, Ruth Brown, Lori Bartlett and Joy Bartlett. His paternal grandparents: George and Ellen (Hand Boy) Bartlett and maternal grandparents: John and Emma (Walking Bull) Big Head.
