Joseph Jon Comeau was born on November 30, 1954, to Edwin. M. and Ella (Niemiller) Comeau. He was born and raised in McLaughlin and grew up along with his siblings, Kay, Paul, Linda, James “Jim,” David, and Rita. He attended McLaughlin High School and graduated in May of 73. He then attended WYOTech in Laramie, Wyoming, in 1974. Upon returning to McLaughlin, he continued to work as a mechanic with Jundt’s Service and also worked other mechanic jobs as well as ranching.
He then married his beloved wife Diane Faye Buechler in June 1975 in McIntosh, SD. Once they made their home together, they had their first son, Casey Joe Comeau, and six years later, Kenny Jon Comeau followed in suit. Their family was complete.
In Joe’s life, he enjoyed working on cars and small engines, such as lawnmowers and lamps. He was a major car lover, and he would always go to car shows and admire the make and models. From the color to how they looked and sounded, the details were everything to him. He was also very in tune with fixing everything around him that was in need of repair. From housework to out in the field he was the one for the job. He was very fond of model cars, which he collected, and loved spending time with his wife, especially watching westerns and eating her excellent cooking. He loved animals from the large to the small; they all loved him. He was an animal lover and had many throughout the years. Dogs, cats, horses, and cows were very special to him. When he would work out in the pasture, he would have either his sons or his wife by his side. Joe taught both of his sons everything he knew.
Joe was an amazing father and a “great” grandfather. He enjoyed having his grandchildren help him out in the garage and out in the field.
He will be deeply missed by his loved ones. Joe was not just a son, brother, father, and a grandpa, but a man who cherished his family above all. His caring nature and deep love for the people in his life left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Joe is survived by his sons: Casey (Janet) Comeau of Oakes, ND, and Kenny (Connie) Comeau of McLaughlin, SD; siblings: Kay (Mark) Russo of Sioux Falls, SD, Paul (Marjorie) Comeau of McLaughlin, SD, and Linda Comeau of McLaughlin SD; grandchildren: Jonathan (Kristie) Comeau of Devils Lake ND, Callin Greff of Oakes ND, Cody (Maddie) Comeau of Aberdeen SD, Jackson, Kaydee and Jameson Comeau of McLaughlin and many more grandchildren; and great-grandchild Josephine Croweagle Comeau; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Joe was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother… and, most of all, a friend.
Joe is reunited in Heaven with his beloved wife, Diane; parents, Edwin and Ella; brothers James and David; sister Rita; and his grandchildren, Joseph Comeau and Micheal Comeau.
