Funeral services for Joseph K. Blacksmith, 64, of Lower Brule, SD will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2022 at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule, SD with burial in the Holy Comforter Episcopal Cemetery at Lower Brule, SD. Wake services will be 7:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule, SD.
Anyone wishing to follow, the procession will leave from funeral home on Thursday at 12:00 p.m. (NOON)
Joseph K. Blacksmith (aka Joey, JoJo, or Zeb) was born August 2, 1957 to Grace (Dewitt) Blacksmith and Joseph C. Blacksmith in Chamberlain, SD.
He journeyed to the Spirit World on May 21, 2022 at Chamberlain, SD.
Joseph attended school in Lower Brule, SD where he graduated from Lower Brule High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1974 and completed his basic training at Fort Leonard, Missouri. In 1976, he was Honorably Discharged.
On August 2, 2018, Joey was united in marriage to Aldean Black Bear. He worked a variety of jobs in Lower Brule including at Lower Brule Wildlife Department, Lower Brule Farm Corporation (Lakota Popcorn), and for Lower Brule Enterprise.
He was an avid softball and pool player, playing in many tournaments throughout his younger years. He also enjoyed playing darts and spending time with his grandchildren Kendrik, Audra, Alaura, and Bailey. Audra was his baby! Joey’s easy going personality and fun loving attitude made him a friend to many. He will be deeply missed by friends and family alike.
Joey leaves behind four children Samantha LaRoche Blacksmith of Sioux Falls, SD, Chelsea (Louis) Desheuquette of Chamberlain, SD, Ivan Blacksmith of Lower Brule, SD, and Ashley LaRoche Blacksmith of Lower Brule, SD; any many other nieces, nephews, and grandchildren; four sisters Delilah (Kevin) Leckey, Wanda (Randy) Peacock, Patty (John) Atkinson, and Ila (Erik) Moldenhauer.
Preceding him in death were his beautiful granddaughter J’Dolyn Lebeau, parents Joe and Grace Blacksmith, brothers Ronnie and Allen Blacksmith; and nieces and nephews Pamela Hendershot, Billy Joe Hendershot, Corey Ellen LaCroix, and Ronnie Jean LaCroix.
