Joseph Patrick DeToy, 66, passed away at the Mobridge Regional Hospital, in Mobridge, SD, on Monday, October 25, 2021. Joe was born on April 27, 1955, to Thomas (Tee Cee) and Freda (Kaduce) DeToy, in Madison, MN. He is a 1973 graduate of Madison High School, where he was the class president.
Joe married Brenda Haug in 1978. To this union JoeBen (Denver, CO) and Danielle DeToy (Pittsburgh, PA) were born.
Joe managed DeToy’s Family Restaurant and Tee Cee’s Supper Club, in Madison, MN, along with his brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Gail DeToy before he and Brenda moved to Oregon. Joe then embarked on his career as a lumberjack in Blue River, OR, with his beloved brother Tom. Joe and Brenda moved back to MN and purchased and operated DeToy’s Family Restaurant in Granite Falls, MN and built a Super 8 Motel, that was connected to the family restaurant. This soon became the meeting spot of many family Thanksgivings that brought us closer together as a family.
Joe and Brenda built their dream home on Lake Oahe, in Glenham, SD, where Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working as a guide. Joe worked hard all of his life and knew how to take time to enjoy himself.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Freda DeToy, sisters Carla Mae DeToy and Janine DeToy, and brother Daniel DeToy.
Joe is survived by his wife Brenda, children JoeBen and Danielle DeToy. Siblings Sharon (Don) Henrich, Sun City, AZ; Tom (Gloria) DeToy, Canby, MN; Michelle (C.J.) Myles; and Cosette Fust, Zimmerman, MN. Sister-in-law Gail (Daniel) DeToy; mother-in-law JoAnn Hoeke; brother-in-law Keith Haug; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
