Joyce Alberta Wall, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away
peacefully on November 14, 2025, at the age of 86, at the Faulkton Area Medical Center, surrounded by her
loving family after a brief battle with leukemia.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the United Church of Faulkton with Pastor
Bennett Clough presiding. Private burial will be at a later date in the South Dakota Veterans’ Cemetery, Sioux
Falls, SD. Visitation will be one-hour prior to the service at the church.
Joyce was born in Sacramento, California, on December 4, 1938. At the age of six, her family moved to
Roswell, South Dakota. She graduated from Fedora High School and later married Larry Shoemaker in 1956.
From that union came three children: Wendy, Penny, and Leon.
Joyce dedicated her life to her family. She was a loving homemaker while raising her children and later became
a businesswoman alongside her husband, owning the Circle S Motel in Hill City, SD, and later the Donut Barn
in Brookings, SD. After a few years working in office administration, Joyce retired and reunited with her high
school sweetheart, Tom Wall. Together, they built a life in Bothell, Washington, before moving to Mesa,
Arizona. In April 2023, Joyce and Tom relocated to Faulkton, SD, to be closer to family.
Faith was always an important part of Joyce’s life, and she was a devoted member of various churches
throughout her lifetime.
Joyce’s hobbies reflected her love for friends, family and creativity. She enjoyed crocheting—creating countless
baby blankets and afghans for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren—tending to her plants, sewing,
traveling and spending time with her circle of friends of over 65 years. Playing cards with Joyce was a
tradition—though everyone knew she’d win, and she did so with a smile. Her greatest joy was being surrounded
by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
