Judith “Judy” Weldin, a beloved mother, sister, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2023, in Sioux Falls, SD.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Lutheran Memorial Church in Pierre, SD on Tuesday, November 7th, 2023.
Judy was born to Alta (Olesen) McQuistion and Isaac “Ike” McQuistion on August 6, 1956, in Pierre, SD. She was a lifelong resident of her birthplace, where she touched countless lives with her loving and intelligent spirit.
Judy was born and raised at Robbs Flat, 70 miles northwest of Ft. Pierre, on the Cheyenne River. She attended Robbs Flat Country School from 1st through 8th grade, where she quite often rode her horse Misty to school. She graduated from T.F. Riggs High School in 1974.
Judy’s professional life was marked by her dedication and hard work. She held various positions at Embers, A & W, Value Village, Dollar Store, and the Boys and Girls Club.
She had a unique passion for dressing up as a clown and visiting Oahe Inc. and Vista Care. Her playful spirit and genuine care brought joy and laughter to those around her, making her visits a highlight for many.
Judy’s animals were very special to her. Growing up on the farm, she developed a love of horses, she also deeply loved her childhood dog Snoopy. Later in life her dogs Charlie and Rocko were her companions.
Judy is survived by her kids, son, Dave (Jill) Trautman, and their two sons, Tyler Trautman, and his girlfriend Kaitlyn Thies (also one of Judy’s nurses) and Dawson Trautman, daughter, Shelly (Robby) Walth, and their children, Hannah Trautman and Jaxson Walth and son, Chris (Kim) Campos, and their children, Christopher, Katelyn, Cali, Connor and Kody. Judy is also survived by her siblings, Diane Jensen, Cheryl Voigt, Martha (Todd) Hieb and Matt (Lori) McQuistion; her best friends, Margaret Rogers and Nancy Desjarlais.
She was preceded in death by her parents Alta (Olesen) McQuistion and Isaac “Ike” McQuistion, her brothers, Ike Jr. McQuistion and Bill McQuistion, and her brothers-in-law, Big Jake Voigt and Roger Jensen and special daughter Charlotte.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Avantara for the wonderful care of Judy. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to Pierre Wildcats Special Olympics and Boys and Girls Club.
