Junior Neumiller of Mobridge, South Dakota
July 25, 1935 – September 2, 2021
Junior “JR” Neumiller, age 86, passed from this life Thursday, September 2, 2021, at Mobridge Regional Hospital in Mobridge, South Dakota with his wife and family by his side. After contracting COVID-19 in the fall of 2020 Junior experienced declining health until his passing.
Junior was well known for his wit, charisma, and stubbornness. It wasn’t abnormal for his loved ones to refer to him as “that stubborn old German.” These are a few of the characteristics that won over the love of his life, and wife of 66 years, Della (Sackman) Neumiller. The two fell in love dancing and hunting together, and eventually married on April 9, 1955. To this union, three children were born- Vicki, Marsha and Kurt.
Junior Neumiller was born on July 25, of 1935 to Robert and Ida Neumiller on the prairie, in rural Campbell County, South Dakota. He graduated from Glenham High School in 1954 and immediately started chasing his dreams of working in the automotive industry. In 1961, at the age of just 26 years old, Junior was named the youngest manager of Cave Supply. This was only the beginning for Junior, after working as a manager for two years, he decided it was time for his next adventure, along with a partner, JR purchased Cave Supply (later known as GTC/ Carquest Auto Parts) in Mobridge, South Dakota. He owned and worked there for 32 years until his son, Kurt Neumiller, took over.
The perfume of the auto industry was present everywhere that Junior went. JR loved comradery and was well known for community service, he was an active member of Jaycees, Mobridge Shriners, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, and served on the Mobridge Country Club board. Becoming a great-grandpa or “papa,” as his girls called him, was his biggest joy in life. His girls always brought a smile to his face, and joy to his heart.
JR was loved by so many, and we are comforted knowing that he is now in heaven looking down on us all, no doubt, with an EJ brandy in his hand while checking the stock market with that side smirk he was so well known for.
He is survived by his wife Della, three children Vicki Neumiller of Mesa, Arizona, Marsha Maynard of Mobridge, South Dakota, and Kurt (Robbi) Neumiller of Mobridge, South Dakota. Three loving grandchildren, Hayle (Drew) Petersen, Lindsay (Sutton) Sandquist, and Cody Maynard and four great grandchildren Aurora, Thea, Layken and Lydia, and one sister, Nancy (Don) Hummel of Renton, Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ida Neumiller, and sister Connie Auske.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge, South Dakota. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-6:30p.m Wednesday at Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge.
