Karen Gerken Pedigo, 76, a resident of Faulkton Senior Living, passed away Monday, August 23, 2021, surrounded by family.
Burial of her cremains will take place at a later date in Wellfleet Cemetery, Wellfleet, NE.
Karen Joyce Gerken was born November 25, 1944 to Warren and Buela (Dike) Gerken at North Platte, NE. She grew up on the family ranch and attended Echo Country School with her sisters and brother. She later attended trade school, studying bookkeeping. Karen lived in Nebraska a majority of her life until moving to Faulkton to be near her daughter.
Karen married Dale Young and to this union two children were born, Stephanie and Terry. She later married William “Bill” Pedigo.
During her spare time, Karen enjoyed quilting, doing crafts with family, gardening, and being outdoors where she loved to camp, fish, travel, and walk her dogs. She was a Nebraska Huskers football fan and watched the game every weekend with family and friends. She also had the pleasure of family outings weekly to eat and dance at the Eagles in North Platte, NE.
Those left to cherish her life include her daughter, Stephanie (Dean) Schlechter, Faulkton; son, Terry (Maria) Young, Gilbert, AZ; grandchildren: Cory (Bobbi) Young, Bellevue, NE, Breana (Greg) Ritter, Chokio, MN, Erin Kravik, Marietta, MN, Nicolas Jeanor and Joshua Young, Gilbert, AZ, Taylor and Callie Schlechter, Miller; great grandchildren: Bryson, Joseph, Joshua, and Joanna; sister, Judy (Roger) Neal, North Platte, NE; special friend, Betty Schlechter, Faulkton and many other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Merle Rose; both husbands, Dale Young and William Pedigo; great granddaughter, Makenna Lee; brother and sister-in-law, Larry (Donna) Gerken; and sister, Patricia Berg.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Karen’s arrangements.
