Funeral services for Kathleen Village Center, 70, of Ft. Yates will be at 11 AM, Saturday, May 7, 2022, at Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge. Burial will be at the McLaughlin City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Kathleen passed away Friday, April 29, 2022, at Knife River Care Center in Beulah, ND.
Kathleen Ann Village Center, 70 was born in Fort Yates, ND on August 10, 1951, to Leona (Archambault) Village Center and William Village Center, Sr.
Kathleen was raised in her early years in the Valley of Sitting Bull, what is present day Bullhead, SD. Wanting to make a better life for their kids William and Leona moved to Fort Yates in 1960. Kathleen attended St. Bernard’s Mission School in her early elementary years. She also attended Stephan Boarding school in SD, eventually she graduated from Cheyenne Eagle Butte High School in 1970.
Shortly after high school she had her first child Sheila Murphy (McLaughlin). Shortly after that she met Harry DuBray, Sr., who she married on November 10, 1980 in Selby, SD. From this union 3 more children were born: Thomas, Harry Jr., and Kateri.
She had various jobs throughout her life. Her earlier years she was a dental assistant at IHS dental clinic, her later years she worked various jobs for the SRST her last place of employment was Lake Oahe group home. Her main influence was to influence and help others which she did by attending AA groups and other support networks she was a sponsor to many. Kathleen became somewhat of an uncertified and unofficial counselor. She loved helping others any way she could.
Kathleen loved her kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren very much. Her children always came first when they were growing up. She would help out with her grandchildren and her oldest great grandchild wherever and whenever she could. We could always count on grandma. She was also a woman of God. She participated in various church groups, but always ended up following the Catholic faith which she was active in until her passing.
In 2007, Kathleen had knee surgery that altered her life. Confined to a wheelchair and enduring multiple unsuccessful surgeries still didn’t stop her from reaching out, helping her family, and loving life. This ultimately led to her going to Knife River Care Center in Beulah, ND where she resided until the time of her passing surrounded by family.
Some of Kathleen’s favorite things to do were sewing projects, various crafts, watching the hallmark channel, calling and visiting her sisters, kids, and grandkids on the phone, and reading a different variety of magazines.
She is survived by her three children: Sheila Murphy, Bismarck, ND; Thomas DuBray(Sherry Elk) Fort Yates, ND; Harry DuBray, Jr., Fort Yates, ND; and Kateri (Michael)Murphy, Selfridge, ND; Grandchildren Darian & Jagger Walking Eagle, Presley, Martina, & Daysha Murphy, Wyslee, Steven, Madisyn, Christian, Tommy & Nova DuBray, Akicita & Wana’cha DuBray, Treysey DuBray, Aaden & Laila Murphy; Great grandchildren Kora, Jenesis, and Kira Walking Eagle, Kelahni Walking Eagle, Bryleigh, Maiah, Izayah Martin; Sisters Toni Village Center, Alexandria, VA, Carol Gipp, Mandan, ND, Linda Village Center, Fort Yates, ND, Irma Annis, McLaughlin, SD, Marlene (Steve) McLaughlin of Fort Thompson, SD.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parent’s William, Sr. and Leona Village Center; sisters Velma, Joyce, & Tina; brothers William, Jr., & Marlon; and grandchildren Dana & Blue Annis, Steven Jr., & Mandy McLaughlin, Angel Village Center, Veronica Emery, and Eden Hertel.
