Kenneth Holzer, 79, of Mobridge passed away Thursday, September 17, 2020, at the Mobridge Regional Hospital. There will be a memorial visitation from 5-7 PM, Monday, September 21, 2020 at Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge. A private memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held. Inurnment will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth James Holzer was born on October 19, 1940, at the family homestead near Trail City to Frank and Rose (Aberle) Holzer. He attended country grade school and Timber Lake High School, graduating in 1958. Following graduation Kenneth worked for Mobridge Iron Works for one year before he was drafted into the US Army on October 23, 1963. He served in Okinawa, Japan. He was honorably discharged on March 18, 1965. Kenneth was very proud of his service in the military. After his discharge he returned to Mobridge and worked for Mobridge Iron Works and MDU.
In January 1967 Kenneth married Virginia Hohl in Trail City. They made their home in Mobridge. In 1967 he went into partnership with Lloyd Loll in H&L Implement. He ran the business until he sold in 1988 and semi-retired. Kenneth and Virginia moved to Rapid City in July of 1993 where they managed apartment complexes. In 1996 they moved back to Mobridge where he has since resided. Upon moving back Kenneth worked as maintenance man at the Wrangler until retiring at 70.
Kenneth was a member of the Mobridge Moose Club, the Mobridge Jaycees, the Sportsmans Club and the American Legion. Kenneth had a love for the outdoors whether it was hunting for deer, pheasants, and grouse, or fishing and camping. He was also a handy man. He could repair or build anything. He enjoyed visiting his friends on Friday afternoon at the Legion. Above all he loved spending time with his grandchildren. Kenneth lovingly gave all of and his children and grandchildren a nickname that they all continue to use to this day.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 53 years, Virginia of Mobridge, children, Michael (Stacey) Holzer of Thornton, CO, Patricia (Brian) Feist of Mobridge, Brian Holzer of Rapid City, and Jeffrey Holzer of Eau Claire, WI, grandchildren, Megan Feist, Jordan Feist, Myia Feist, Madelynn Holzer, Gabrielle Holzer, Zachary Holzer, Alex Holzer, two brothers, David Holzer of Colorado City, CO, and Frank (Ruth) Holzer Jr. of Trail City.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Gerald, sister, Carol Schweitzer, daughter-in-law, Rebecca Holzer and granddaughter, Lillian Holzer.
